Hook Norton, St Peter
The Church of St Peter is at the junction of High Street and Queen Street in the sizable Cotswold village of Hook Norton, famous as the home of the Hook Norton Brewery. I parked on High Street a little way west of the church.
This sizable church is set in the middle of the village and has a fair sized churchyard. The first building was started in the early 10thC with many additions over the centuries. It has a large tower at the west end of the church and the ringing room is reached by climbing 49 stone steps with large risers. The ringing room is large with one window. The entrance to the staircase is inside the church.

My first visit was on Thursday 17th February 2011 as the third tower
[1st,
2nd,
4th]
of the 256th Mid-week Outing
of the
Four Shires Guild. I rang up bell #3, some rounds and call changes on #4 and ended with a touch of Grandsire Triples on #3.

My second visit was on Saturday 21st September 2013 as the first tower [2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th] of the WDCRA Southern Branch 2013 Tour.
There were only 10 of us so most of the hour we spent here was occupied by ringing. I rang up bell #5 and then rang some Rounds & Call Changes on #4. I then rang the Tenor for Grandsire Triples and followed that with a couple of attempts at Stedman Triples on #5 both of which failed after several bobs. I had better with luck with a nice touch of Plain Bob Major on #3 and finished by ringing down bell #6.
My ringing on 8 has certainly improved since my first visit to Hook Norton.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 20-2-13 in E. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Peter and more information is provided by the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.
