Salford, St Mary the Virgin
The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Salford is on the western edge of this small village which is situated on the north side of the A44. I parked on Church Lane and walked the short distance up a track to the church.
The church is set in a large churchyard with open fields to the west. The organ is installed in an unusual position, the groundfloor of the tower. The church was rebuilt in Victorian times but the tower still has 33 very worn stone steps in the form of a spiral staircase that leads to the small ringing room that has wood panelled walls and a single window. The entrance to the staircase is inside the church.

Four Shires Guild. I rang up bell #4 followed by a touch of Grandsire Doubles.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 5 bells with a tenor weighing 6-2-27 in A. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Mary the Virgin and more information is provided by the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.
