York, St Wilfrid
The Church of St Wilfrid is just one of many churches in the city of York. It is unusual from the perspective of a bell ringer in that St Wilfrid's is a Catholic church. The church entrance is on Duncombe Pl, around 100m from York Minster.
To get to the ringing room you climb a staircase which starts in the church entrance porch. The 54 step stone spiral staircase leads you up to the carpeted ringing room which has plenty of seating space for those not ringing one of the ten bells.

My first visit was on Saturday 10th October 2015 as the second tower [1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th] of the Offenham ringers outing.
We didn't have enough ringers comfortable with ringing all 10 bells so we contented ourselves by ringing on 6 or 8. I started by ringing #3 for a touch of Plain Bob Minor on the back 6. I rang the tenor and bell #5, once again on the back 6, for Rounds & Call Changes. We rang the back 8 just the once when I rang bell #7 for Rounds & Call Changes. Next I rang bell #2 on the front 6 for Grandsire Doubles and ended by ringing bell #2 of the back 6 for Plain Bob Doubles.
All the bells that I rang were nice and easy to ring.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 10 bells with a tenor weighing 18-1-21 in F. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Wilfrid and more information is provided by the Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers.
