York, St Lawrence
The Church of St Lawrence is just one of many churches in the city of York. Most churches are within the city walls but St Lawrence is just outside Walmgate Bar's barbican on the south side of Lawrence Street. The tower of the old church is also in the churchyard.
To get to the ringing room you climb a staircase which starts in the church entrance porch. A 23 step stone spiral staircase leads you up to the ringing room which has plenty of seating space for those not ringing one of the eight bells.

My first visit was on Saturday 10th October 2015 as the third tower [1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th] of the Offenham ringers outing.
On arrival we were informed that we would be slightly handicapped in our ringing, the stay on bell #4 was broken. I started by ringing up the Tenor. I then rang bell #7 for a touch of Grandsire Triples followed by bell #5 for Grandsire Doubles with 7, 6, 8 covering. I rang the treble for Rounds & Call Changes and finished our visit with ringing down bell #6.
The broken stay did make things a little awkward but the bells I rang were all nice and easy to ring.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 7-3-24 in A. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Lawrence and more information is provided by the Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers.
