Tackley, St Nicholas
The parish Church of St Nicholas, Tackley is located southwest of the main body of the village on Church Hill and borders Tackley Park. There is a layby beside the church with parking for a few cars as well as a church car park.
The church is cruciform in layout. Access to the ringing room is from within the church but a little awkward. The first part is a wooden stair, this is followed by a ladder to the edge of the tower and then the short awkward stretch up though a small trapdoor into the ringing room. The room is not very big but does have room for several to sit in addition to those ringing the 6 bells. Two small windows looking over the roof are curtained off. The painted walls make the room quite light. The clock mechanism drives two clock faces.

My first visit was on Thursday 17th January 2013 as the third tower
[1st,
2nd,
4th]
of the 279th Mid-week Outing
of the
Four Shires Guild.
I started by ringing up bell #4 and discovered that the ropes was very long. I then rang the tenor for Plain Bob Minor, this did not go well, this rope was also very long and I had trouble turning the bell in. Things went much better when, a little later, I rang the treble for Cambridge Minor.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 13-3-15 in F. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Nicholas and more information is provided by the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.
