Chaddesley Corbett, St Cassian

The Chaddesley Corbett Church, St Cassian [1] is situated on the North side of the A448 which runs through the village. Parking is limited but I managed to park on the roadside on The Holloway that joins the A448 beside the Church.

I visited for the first time on Monday 5th May 2009 for a session arranged in advance of the WDCRA AGM. An overcast Bank Holiday Monday, but no longer raining. The ringing room is reached by climbing a short stone spiral staircase with wooden treads. The entrance to the staircase is inside the tower. This is a n 8 bell tower and the ringing room has plenty of space for those ringing and seating space for several others. It is a nice bright room with a large window. We started out with some Rounds and Call Changes on all 8 bells. We followed this with a couple of plain courses of Plain Bob Minor on the back six, the first course was fine, the second didn't seem right though we got to the end ok. Next some Plain Hunt on 7, more Call Changes and then we rang down. In this time I rang on bells #5, #6 and #7 and they all rang nicely.

The Bells

The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 15-2-0 in E. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Cassian. No information on the bells history or inscriptions was to be found in the tower.

The Worcestershire & Districts Change Ringing Association have additional information on St Cassian, Chaddesley Corbett.
