Ashton under Hill, St Barbara

Ashton under Hill Parish Church, St Barbara, is built of the local cotswold stone and is situated in the south of the village where Station Road joins Beckford Road. The ringing room is at the top of a short stone staircase that is accessed from the outside of the tower on the North side. The only nearby parking is on the road side.

I visited for the first time on Sunday 31st May 2009 as part of the "RING and RIDE" tour around Bredon Hill arranged by St Andrew's Parish Centre. The ringing room is small and while there is nothing awkward about ringing there is very little space for non-ringers. I started with bell #3 which I rang up, followed that by a couple of plain courses of Plain Bob Minor and some plain courses of Grandsire Doubles. I ended up by ringing down the Tenor. They were a nice set of bells to ring.

The Bells

The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 7-1-6 in A. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Barbara and more information is provided by the Worcestershire & Districts Change Ringing Association.
