Bulkington, St James

The Bulkington Parish Church of St James is on the North side of School Road (B4029) near the middle of this large village. There is parking just West of the church.

The ringing room is reached by climbing a stone spiral staircase the bottom of which is inside the tower. The ringing room has a large arched window providing a lot of natural light. There is plenty of seating for perhaps 12 people in addition to those ringing.

I visited for the first time on Thursday 18th June 2009 for the "Two Hundred and Thirtysixth Mid-week Outing" of the Four Shires Guild of Bell Ringers. I rang up bell #3 and Tenor for a touch of Grandsire Triples. The bells I rang went fine. I sat listening to others ring some complicated material and noticed how much the tower moves.

The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 12-1-23 in G. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St James.

The Coventry Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers also have information on the Bulkington Parish Church of St James.
