Alveley, St Mary the Virgin

I rang at St Mary the Virgin, the Parish Church of Alveley as part of a tour in 2006. The Church has quite a mixture of architectural features, it was started in 1140 and built in sandstone and tufa with later Norman, Gothic and Tudor additions! The ringing room, a very nice red carpeted room, with 6 bells, was at the top of a wrought iron spiral staircase. This was a really nice place to ring.

The Bells

The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 10-1-3 in G. They were all dated 1779 but were retuned and rehung in 1959. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Mary the Virgin.
