Moreton-in-Marsh, St David

The Moreton-in-Marsh Parish Church of St David [1, 2] is situated just West of the High Street (A429, Fosse Way) in Church Street. There are several parking spaces by the entrance to the churchyard.

The ringing room accessed from a door in the South side of the tower that opens on to a stone spiral (ant-clockwise) staircase than climbs 32. The room is npt particulaly large and the clock mechanism takes up a lot of space but there is some seating for those not ringing. There are two windows, one facing North and the other South.

I visited for the first time on Saturday 4th July 2009 as part of the Centenary celebrations of the Four Shires Guild of Bell Ringers. I rang up bell #6, rang the Tenor for a touch of Stedman Triples and ringing down bell #6. Both the bells that I rang were trouble free and rang nicely.

The Bells

The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 10-0-14 in G. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St David and additional information provided by The Gloucester & Bristol Diocesan Association of Church Bell Ringers.
