Cranham, St James the Great

The Cranham Parish Church of St James the Great is on the Western edge of the largest of the clusters of building that make up this rather spread out village and is about a mile from the A46. There is limited on street parking near the church.

There a nice, well kept churchyard with excellent views South and West. Like Painswick there are a number of clipped Yew trees.

Ringing is on the ground floor but closed off from the body of the church by a wood and glass partition and door. There is only room for those actually ringing.

2009-09-17

I visited for the first time on Thursday 17th September 2009 for the "Two Hundred and Thirtyninth Mid-week Outing" of the Four Shires Guild of Bell Ringers. I managed a touch of Plain Bob Minor on bell #3 followed by a touch of Grandsire Doubles and ended the day by ringing down bell #4.

The Bells

The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 9-1-16 in A. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St James the Great with some additional information provided by The Gloucester & Bristol Diocesan Association of Church Bell Ringers.
