Ashchurch, St Nicholas
The Parish Church of St Nicholas is on the North side of the A46 which runs along the South of the village of Ashchurch. There is a small car park between the A46 and the Church.
One unusual feature of the Church is the oak rood screen built in the late 15th century. The tower is at the West end of the Church and the ringing room is reached by climbing the 25 steps of a narrow spiral stone staircase. The entrance to the staircase is in the soutwest corner of the Nave. The room has one sizable arched window but is quite small and there is not much room for people in addition to those ringing the 8 bells.

I visited for the first time on Thursday 19th November 2009 for the "Two Hundred and Fourtyfirst Mid-week Outing" of the Four Shires Guild of Bell Ringers. I only managed to ring once and that was the Tenor for a touch of Grandsire Triples.

I visited for the second time on Tuesday 3rd July 2012 as the first tower [2nd, 3rd, 4th] of the Harry Windsor Ringing Centre annual outing. I rang bells #6 and #7 for some Rounds & Call Changes followed by the Tenor for a touch of Grandsire Triples.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 11-2-24 in F♯. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Nicholas. There is some additional information provided by The Gloucester & Bristol Diocesan Association of Church Bell Ringers.
