Ringing for VE Day

A request has been received from Government for bells to be rung to mark the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day). If possible, the desire is for bells to be rung at 11 am on Saturday 9th May or alternatively at other convenient time over the weekend Friday to Sunday 8th-10th May. Although there are other demands for special ringing coming up, we hope that this can be given due support. The Church of England has also been approached by Government, so church authorities should be aware of the reason for additional ringing."

A request from the Government to ring! Please do so for this special occasion.

800th Anniversary of Magna Carta

Much publicity has been given to the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta which has been subject of several articles in the Ringing World, the most recent by Kate Flavell being in the issue of 23rd January. The main celebrations are taking place over the period of Sunday 14th and Monday 15th June. It is hoped that the world- wide significance of the influence of the Magna Carta will be marked by ringing in the nation of its origin.

St George's Day, 23rd April

Please don't forget to ring for St George's Day on Thursday 23rd April. There was a successful campaign a few years ago for ringing to occur for England's Patron Saint. Initially this didn't receive much support from the upper echelons of the CofE (surprisingly). However, they caved in and ringing got underway; and rightly, too. Ring anytime that day.
